THRIFTY'S INC and its affiliates (“Bluenotes”) respect your right to personal privacy.  Your privacy is a serious matter and therefore important to us.  We at Bluenotes appreciate the opportunity to interact and do business with you on the internet and are committed to protecting and safeguarding your privacy.

This privacy policy describes our privacy practices.  When you use a Bluenotes Web site (“Site”), register with Bluenotes, become a Signature Member or purchase a product online, you are consenting to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this privacy policy and the terms and conditions for the use of the Site.  We may change or add to this privacy policy at any time without notice, so we encourage you to review it periodically. We reserve the right to vary this privacy policy province by province in order to comply with provincial laws.

We have included in this privacy policy details related to how we collect, use and protect the information you decide to provide us. This privacy policy identifies:

You can visit our stores and our Site without identifying yourself or providing any personal information.  At certain times, however, we may ask you to provide certain personal information for the purposes set out in this privacy policy.


When we provide information to you, it may be by e-mail, mail (Canada Post), Text Message (SMS), Twitter, Facebook, telephone or other means.  We will not contact you with promotional information if you have directed us not to contact you with such information.

Why we collect your personal information?


We collect information from you in order to provide you with an interesting, safe and convenient online shopping experience and for the other purposes set out in this privacy policy.  We may retain certain personal information in order to make your subsequent visits and online purchases easy and trouble free.

What does Bluenotes collect?

We receive and may keep information voluntarily given to us when you decided to make a purchase, register online, take part in a special promotion or when you provide any other information or unique preferences to us. This information may include:
•  your name, address and phone number,
•  your date of birth,
•  your e-mail address,
•  your credit card and other financial information if required,
•  proof of your identity, and
•  any other information that you may voluntarily provide through the Site or other means.

When you decide to register online, we will ask you for your name, your email address and a password to go with the email address.

If you wish to receive our email newsletter or become a Signature Member, we will also ask you for your date of birth and postal code.  Certain information that we may request from you is optional.  For example, you do not need to provide us with your date of birth but if you choose to do so it will enable us to notify you of special promotions and offers on or around your birthday.

When you decide to make a purchase online, we will collect a billing/mailing address, and the purchase will be included with your information. We will also collect credit card and/or other necessary financial information from you when you pay for the purchase. 

The information we collect might also include information you provide us about other people. For example, you may provide us with some of the same information as above (name and address) for a merchandise gift recipient. When you provide us with personal information about the intended recipient of a shipment, we use that information for the purposes of processing the shipment and, in some cases, to communicate with the intended recipient to provide information pertaining to the status of the shipment. We rely on you to obtain the intended recipient's consent to our use of the personal information for these limited purposes.

We may receive information about you from other sources such as updated address information. This information may help us to improve our ability to service your needs such as ensuring the accurate delivery of mailed materials.

How we use your personal information


The information that Bluenotes collects is used to provide you with an enjoyable shopping experience.  We may use the information to:

•  deliver merchandise that you purchase online,

If you decide to subscribe to our email newsletter, we will use your personal information to send you the email. We use your date of birth and postal code for planning purposes and to develop appropriate marketing and promotional material. For example, we may send you special offers on or around your birthday or information about a new store opening in your area.

Bluenotes does not and will not transfer, sell or rent your personal information to any unrelated third party other than in accordance with this privacy policy.  Information we collect from you may be shared between all points of contact within Bluenotes.  Those points of contact include employees in our stores, customer service representatives and individuals involved in online and other purchase fulfillment.

In the event that Bluenotes is sold or merges with another company, we may disclose your personal information to the purchaser or the new company formed from the merger.  If we are required by law to disclose or provide access to your personal information, we will do so but only where we are satisfied that such disclosure is required by law.

When you make a purchase online through our Site, we will not retain your credit card information after the purchase has been authorized by the appropriate financial institution. Bluenotes does retain the authorization number provided at the time of authorization in order to deal with credit which might be requested in the event that the purchased item is returned. 

Our Service Providers and Government


Certain business services are performed on our behalf and at our request by other companies. We may securely share your information with selected vendors that perform services for Bluenotes such as hosting, data and promotional service providers and printing companies. To perform these services, these companies may, at times, utilize some of the information you have provided to us. This information is used solely for the purposes Bluenotes has requested such as maintaining our database, administering and monitoring e-mails, displaying offers and contest administration.

We may also securely share your information with governmental agencies or other entities, including credit reporting agencies, assisting us in fraud prevention or investigation. We may do so when permitted or required by law, trying to protect against or prevent actual or potential fraud or unauthorized transactions, or investigating fraud that has already taken place. These entities may access and, if necessary, maintain your information to assist us with fraud prevention and detection. We will never authorize the release of your information to or by such entities for any other purpose.

Bluenotes protects your personal information


Your personal information will be kept confidential.  It is stored and processed on computers located in Canada and the United States of America.  We use procedural and technical safeguards to protect your information against loss or theft as well as against unauthorized access or disclosure in order to protect your privacy.  These protections include firewalls and encryption.

We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to protect the security of your credit card information as it is transmitted to us. SSL is the industry standard for secure commerce transactions. It prevents your personal information from being read by someone else as it travels across the Internet. All of your personal information is encrypted, including credit card number, name and address.

While we use reasonable efforts to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit using the Internet or the Site.  We cannot be responsible for Internet fraud or theft.  Please keep this in mind when providing information through the Site.

Phishing


“Phishing” is a scam that is employed to steal your personal information.  If you receive an unsolicited e-mail from us asking for personal information, do not respond.  We will not request your user name, password or personal financial information through e-mail.

Cookies


A “cookie” is a small data file transferred to your computer’s hard drive that allows a Web site to respond to you as an individual, gathering and remembering information about your preferences in order to tailor its operation to your needs, likes and dislikes. Cookies also enable an electronic retailer like Bluenotes to keep track of a customer’s electronic “shopping cart” before completing a purchase. When your computer accepts a cookie it does not provide us with access to your computer or any personal information about you other than the information you choose to provide to us.

Most browsers will allow you to remove cookies from your computer hard drive, block acceptance of cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. However, if you block or turn off cookies, certain features might not be available to you and our ability to personalize your experience would be limited. 

A special note about children


This Site is not targeted to or intended for use by children.  Children under the age of 14 years are not eligible to use this Site unsupervised.  We ask that children not provide any personal information without the knowledge and permission of parents or guardians.  If we learn that a child under the age of 14 years has provided personal information, we will not use any of that personal information without the consent of parents or guardians.

Retention of Personal Information


Bluenotes retains your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which it was collected and to comply with applicable laws. Your consent to such purposes(s) remains valid after any termination of our relationship with you.

Our Site may offer links to other websites. Other websites have their own terms of use and privacy and security policies. Bluenotes is not responsible for how such third parties collect, use or disclose your personal information.
